My name is Rabbi Joseph Black. I serve as Senior Rabbi at Temple Emanuel in Denver, CO. Our synagogue is one of the largest congregations in the United States – wit over 6,000 members.
I am recording this video to show my support to all those in Israel who are speaking out against the current Governmental Coalition. First of all, I am a Zionist. I love the State of Israel. I am committed to a safe, democratic and secure Jewish State. I have demonstrated on behalf of the State of Israel on many occasions. I support the concept of a two-State solution with a viable, secure Jewish State next to a viable and secure Palestinian State.
and many of my congregants and fellow Rabbis are very worried about what we are seeing taking place in the Knesset. I see far-right religious fanatics who are determined to undermine the relationship between the Jews in the Diaspora and the Land of Israel.
I see attempts to do away with the Supreme Court by removing any semblance of an independent and free Judiciary. I see Far Right Hooligans being give free reign to carry out acts of violence against the Palestinian people – and the Jewish people.
I see the dangerous divisions that are being fomented between Progressive Jewish Communities here in America and in Israel. I see the rise of fascism and totalitarianism in Israel.
This worries me and my congregation greatly. I want to commend all of you who are marching and demonstrating on behalf of a Democratic State of Israel.
I believe strongly in the values of Torah that are being misrepresented by far-right extremists in the current Government. If this does not come to an end, the vital and sacred relationship between the Jews of the Diaspora and the Jews of the Land of Israel may be irreparably damaged. This would be a tragedy. May God continue to bless all of you raise their voices in anger and love Know that you are not alone. We are with you. The People of Israel Live!
